The UK has a new prime minister. Her name is Theresa May and she is only the second female prime minister in Britain’s history. The first was Margaret Thatcher who was the leader from 1979-1990. May has been a politician for many years and has many supporters. She is known for being serious and hard working. She has become prime minister because the previous leader, David Cameron, decided to step down after losing the EU referendum in June. May has a very difficult job ahead because, over the next couple of years, the UK has to negotiate the details of the Brexit (Britain’s exit from the EU) with the European parliament. During this time, many people are worried that the UK’s economy will be very unstable.
